RecipeWallet Privacy Policy
Last updated: 15 June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Hickling Media Limited (“RecipeWallet”, “we”, “us”, “our”) collects when you use the RecipeWallet app and website (the “Service”), how we use it, and the choices and rights you have.
We are a company registered in Jersey (155666, registered office: Roche Banque, La Grande Route De La Cote, St. Clement, Jersey, JE2 6SD) and we are the controller of your personal information. If you have any questions, contact us at bill@foodinfivemins.com.
1. Who this applies to
This policy applies to everyone who uses the Service. Most of our users are based in the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia, and this policy is written with the rights of users in those places in mind (see “Your rights” below).
2. What we collect
Depending on how you use the Service, we may collect:
Account information — your email address and password (passwords are stored in encrypted form), and any display name you choose.
Cooking profile — the answers you give in the setup quiz, such as who you cook for, how you like to cook, your goals, dietary preferences and restrictions, foods you avoid, and the city or country you enter. You can skip any of these. Some answers (for example, a dietary preference like Halal) might reflect a personal belief — we only use them to tailor recipes, and you don’t have to provide them.
Recipes and content — the recipes, notes and photos you save, create or share.
Usage and device information — how you interact with the Service, your device type and operating system, app/device identifiers, and your IP address. We may use your IP address to estimate your approximate region.
Location you provide — the city or country you optionally enter to get local ingredient suggestions.
Payment information — if you buy a premium subscription, payment is handled by the relevant app store or our third-party payment provider. We don’t store your full card details.
Communications — messages you send us, such as support requests or feedback.
You don’t have to provide everything, but some features won’t work without certain information (for example, an account needs an email address).
3. How we use your information
We use your information to:
provide, maintain and personalize the Service, including tailoring recipe suggestions to your profile;
create and manage your account;
process premium subscriptions and payments;
respond to your questions and provide support;
understand how the Service is used so we can improve it;
keep the Service secure and detect and prevent misuse or fraud;
send you service-related messages (such as security or account notices); and
where you’ve agreed or where we’re allowed to, send you marketing about RecipeWallet (see “Marketing” below).
We may also create de-identified or aggregated information (which can’t be linked back to you) and use it to understand trends and improve the Service.
4. Marketing
If we send you marketing, you can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link in our emails or by contacting us. We’ll still send you essential service messages about your account.
5. When we share information
We don’t sell your personal information.
We share it only in these situations:
Service providers — companies that help us run the Service, such as hosting, analytics, payment processing and email delivery. They may only use your information to provide services to us.
When you choose to share — if you share a recipe, the person you share it with will see what you’ve shared.
Legal reasons — if we’re required to by law, or to protect our rights, users or the Service.
Business transfers — if we’re involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that, subject to this policy.
6. International transfers
We’re based in Jersey and use service providers in places including the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia. That means your information may be transferred to and stored in countries other than where you live, which may have different data protection rules. Where we do this, we take reasonable steps to make sure your information stays protected to an appropriate standard.
7. How long we keep it
We keep your personal information only as long as we need it to provide the Service, or as required by law. If you delete your content or your account, we’ll delete or de-identify your information within a reasonable period, except where we need to keep some of it for backups, security, dispute resolution or legal reasons.
8. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security. Help us keep your account safe by using a strong, unique password and telling us about any unusual activity.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal information:
access a copy of it;
correct it if it’s wrong or incomplete;
delete it;
object to or restrict how we use it;
receive it in a portable, machine-readable format; and
withdraw consent where we rely on it.
To exercise any of these, email us at bill@foodinfivemins.com. We may need to verify your identity first. You can also delete your content and account directly within the Service.
UK and EU users. You can complain to your data protection regulator. In the UK that’s the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk). In Jersey it’s the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner (jerseyoic.org).
California users. Under the CCPA you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use and share it, to request deletion or correction, and to opt out of the “sale” of personal information. We don’t sell your personal information. We won’t discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
Australian users. You can ask to access or correct your information, and you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
10. Children
The Service is not intended for anyone under 18, and we don’t knowingly collect information from under-18s. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us at bill@foodinfivemins.com and we’ll remove it.
11. Cookies and similar technologies
We and our service providers use cookies and similar technologies (such as app analytics SDKs) to keep you logged in, remember preferences, and understand how the Service is used. Where required, we’ll ask for your consent. You can usually control cookies through your browser or device settings, though some features may not work without them.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make a significant change, we’ll take reasonable steps to let you know, for example through the Service or by email. The “last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed.
